GRAND Magazine
Different from the beginning.
When GRAND Magazine launched, they did so first as a digital-only magazine. Without the constraints of typical print layout, the publication was free to explore their creative boundaries from the beginning.
While many digital-only magazines embrace a landscape view, GRAND chose a modified portrait layout. The rationale was simple; help their more mature audience (the magazine is targeted to grandparents) enjoy new media will being reminded of a traditional magazine experience.
Fonts and font sizes were chosen specifically for their ability to be easily read on computer screens, eliminating the need for zooming in and out on content. Finally, GRAND has fully embraced the capabilities of the medium with flash games, animation and video serving as regular features within their publication.
The blend of new technology with a mature audience has reaped many rewards for the publisher, including several awards, a loyal growing audience and a satisfied advertiser base.
