Taking advantage of the medium.
When AAA Living chose to make digital-only versions of their magazine, they realized from the beginning that it was important that these optimized versions leverage the capabilities of the medium.
Because these versions of the magazine don’t exist in print, layout is designed for the screen reader. Through special fonts and larger font sizes, readers are able to easily navigate the content without zooming.
Copious amounts of rich media fill the pages. With many articles about travel destinations, video often serves as the best way to tell the story.
In other cases, animation – either simple animations, or high end interactive examples – also work together to give the reader a unique experience.
The end result, then, is a magazine that reminds the reader of the print experience they’ve come to cherish, coupled with the best the technology has to offer.
