Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.

While I agree that the actual “production” cost of a whiz-bang digital edition is significantly lower than $10k, the cost of developing all of the whiz-bang content can get quite large, quite quickly.

Of course, it is possible to do it “on the cheap” if you have the right resources, but from my experience in high-volume publishing (The company I work for publishes close to 1,000 titles per month), we generally have to hire out multimedia work and the folks that do it well aren’t cheap.

Perhaps in a future blog you might consider reviewing the different ways publishers are developing low-cost, supplemental, digital content?
