“Like” the Brand You’re Building

September 8, 2010 by

In a recent Audience Development blog, writer Christopher Levy discusses using the Facebook "Like" button to increase your community. (Click here to read the blog.) This comes months after Nxtbook Media began implementing the Like button into digital editions. (Click here to read about it.)

So why are people still talking about it? Because it works. Your readers build communities through social networking sites like facebook, twitter, and LinkedIn. Facebook reports:

"On average, Facebook users have 130 friends each, and more than 30 billion pieces of content are shared on Facebook each month, most of which are posted links to articles and other media."

This means, according to Facebook statistics, if just one of your readers hits the Like button on your digital edition, the article is blasted to 130 friends’ news feeds. You benefit from the referral traffic. Other options include building a Facebook fan page around your brand or digital content like Connections magazine did here. You can also allow your readers to leave comments on articles by incorporating the Discussion Tab, another feature Facebook recommends and we showcase here.

These are just some of the tools available to our publishers to build a community around their brands and digital content. Make marketers out of your readers; leverage the social network network today.
