Wanna Go Cruisin’?

September 28, 2006 by Marcus · Leave a Comment

Nothing’s worse for wanderlust than a great cruise brochure, and the recent project we did for Holland America makes us want to hop right on the nearest boat.

From a technology standpoint, we did something a little different with this one. Holland has lots of video footage, but rather than embed it all within the NXTbook, we used simple pop-up windows so that each one would play in its own window. Click here for the page in the catalog and then click on the play buttons to see for yourself.

One Blogger’s Thoughts…

Here’s a blogger thinking about the future of print through the prism of the Nxtbook.

Cuddle up with a Good Sony e-Book Reader

September 27, 2006 by Marcus · 2 Comments

Doesn’t have quite the same ring, does it? Nevertheless, the Sony Reader is about set to launch. Out of the gate, it won’t play NXTbooks and only displays in gray-scale, but who knows – three years from now you might be using it to read your digital editions.

Massively Del.icio.us

September 26, 2006 by Marcus · Leave a Comment

Popular bookmarking site del.icio.us announced this week that they had passed the one million user mark. As readers of this blog – and NXTbook users – know, NXTbook is the only digital publisher to allow users to easily save content to their del.icio.us accounts, where other users can also easily seart, sort and view it.

If you work on more than one computer (say one at home and one at work) and you don’t have a del.icio.us account, don’t hesitate to get one. Accounts are free, usage is easily and you’ll love the way it changes how you work.

Flashing the VoIP Community

September 22, 2006 by Matthew · Leave a Comment

Following on the success of Flash Player in online video sites, news has just broken today that Adobe is looking to add VoIP capabilities to Flash Player.  Om Malik has a good summary of what has been leaked from Adobe about the progress of this new project.  Some difficult technical obstacles will need to be overcome, but if Adobe can support multiple VoIP protocols while still keeping the size of the Flash Player client small, they stand a good chance of taking a huge bite out of the VoIP market and could give rise to new uses of VoIP technology.  We will be following this project closely as the NXTbook is based on Flash and it would be very easy to add VoIP capabilities to the NXTbook system if Flash Player offered full support of VoIP technology.

RSS Explained for the Masses

September 22, 2006 by Matthew · Leave a Comment

Many of you reading this blog are probably familiar with RSS and understand its importance and usefulness in the online world.  But, sometimes it is difficult to explain RSS to the uninitiated without causing some confusion.  Stephanie Quilao over at Back in skinny jeans has written one of the best layperson explainations on RSS that I have read, which she appropriately titled "How to explain RSS the Oprah way."  It should not be missed by anyone who wants to understand RSS better or wants a good way to explain RSS to others.

Even More Del.icio.us

September 21, 2006 by Marcus · Leave a Comment

We’re big fans of Del.icio.us at NXTbook. We find it’s a great way to save and share content from within the NXTbook. Both publishers and users have a lot to gain by utilizing it.

Obviously, the folks at Wired agree. They named Del.icio.us as one of the “Web 2.0 Winners,” saying:

“Without del.icio.us, I’d be drowning in a morass of bookmark clutter. Seriously, drowning. Every article I’ve saved for later, every YouTube video I’ve earmarked for repeat viewing, every cache of free MP3s… It’s truly a lifesaver.”

Blogger Jill Hurst-Wahl Likes Nxtbook…

From the post:

Yes, some of these features are available in e-book readers. This,
however, works without downloading a separate reader. And imagine
marrying this with a digitized book? I can!

Paul Conley on Nxtbook…

A nice review from Paul Conley:

Now this is kind of fun. American Business Media is posting a link to
the tradeshow daily that Folio magazine produced at the ABM Spring
Meeting. The daily is rendered Web-friendly via NXTBook, a system I
like more and more each time I use it.
