The thought is that the typical Slate content that readers know and love will remain free. However, they will now offer premium services – such as additional content, ability to connect with the Slate community, and discounts for events – for a price.
What I like about this is twofold: it reinforces the benefit of additional content, and strengthens the community around the brand.
